Right Brain – Left Brain

2008 December 11

Interesting little test here.  It is a right brain, left brain thing.  Your habit of reading words may override the directions given.  For example, ignore the words below and say what color the font is.  For example, this text is black, but if I write the word yellow it is still in a black font color.  Outloud, so that you interrupt those around you and draw attention to yourself, say the color of the word – not the word itself.  Do not read the words but say the color, quickly now, go. . .

How did you do?  Did you say the color or read the word?  This has to do with how well connected your left brain is to your right brain.  An interesting exercise I do once in a while is to intentionally do ordinary tasks differently.  For example, are you right handed?  Do you ever brush your teeth with your left hand?  Or pour a drink with your left hand while holding a cup in your right hand?  It takes a little more thought.  It’s good exercise for your brain.  And we can all use that.

I have seen this before… and I did read them all correctly. I did it fast too just to test it and see how many mistakes I’d make. So that does this mean? Which side am I…? And why do I have to be on a side? I’m starting to resent this.

I’ve seen and done this before. It still wasn’t easy. I began to slow down midway. I was okay until the last word. How easy this is for preschoolers who can’t read, lol.

I didn’t even think of that Tia! I’ll check with my two year old and see if she can do it.
